Race relations in America美国种族问题The lessons of Ferguson弗格森的教训There is no excuse for rioting. But smarter policing would make it less likely暴乱无可原谅,但有能力的警察能尽力避免冲突。AFTER more than a week of rioting in Ferguson, Missouri, what can America learn? The first and simplest lesson is that cops should wear cameras. Knowing that they are being recorded, the police would be less likely to shoot suspects, and vice versa. Also, had Officer Darren Wilson been wearing a camera on August 9th, Americans would know what happened just before he shot and killed Michael Brown, an unarmed black 18-year-old. As it is, there are two conflicting stories and no way to choose between them. The police say that Mr Brown attacked Mr Wilson and tried to wrestle away his gun. In the ensuing struggle the officer, fearing for his life, shot and killed the teenager. Mr Browns friend, who was with him at the time, gives a completely different account: he says the officer grabbed Mr Brown by the neck and later shot him as he was trying to surrender. Early autopsy results show that Mr Brown was hit by at least six bullets but do not settle the dispute. His death sparked protests that soon turned violent. Looters smashed up shops and picked them clean. The police responded with a staggering display of force, rolling military-style armoured cars onto the streets, pointing rifles at the protesters, dispersing crowds with tear gas and detaining not only rioters but also peaceful demonstrators and journalists. There is a racial gulf in how these events are perceived. Some 65% of black Americans think the police went too far in responding to the protests; only 33% of whites agree. Many blacks in Ferguson disbelieve anything the police say. Mr Browns family describe him as a gentle giant. The Ferguson police beg to differ:they released a purportedly showing him violently robbing a liquor store minutes before he met Officer Wilson. Some locals dismissed this as a smear. The liquor store was promptly looted. Rioting will do nothing to resolve Fergusons problems. On the contrary, it will make businesses flee, leaving locals with fewer jobs and shops. So the immediate priority is to restore order. Next, the investigations of the shooting aly under way must be pursued vigorously and transparently. In the longer term, America should ponder three things. To protect and serve保护民众,务民众First, as Barack Obama noted on August 18th, “there is a big difference between our military and our local law enforcement and we dont want those lines blurred.” In fact, those lines have aly been blurred, as the armoured cars on the streets of Ferguson attest. In 2012, according to the FBI, American police officers shot and killed 409 people. Their British counterparts shot and killed no one. The German police, who unlike the Brits are routinely armed, shot and killed eight people; the Japanese have killed one in the past six years. In their defence, American cops face greater risks than those in other rich countries. The civilians they meet are often armed; small wonder they are jumpy when they cannot see your hands. Yet this is a reason for cops to work harder to improve relations with the communities they serve. Many police forces in America are good at this, but some have developed a warrior culture that stresses brute force over pounding the beat. A Pentagon programme that gives surplus military hardware to local law-enforcement agencies can make them seem like occupying armies rather than public servants. That is both costly and counterproductive—the public are more likely to volunteer information to officers they trust than to those they fear. Second, unlike plumbers or accountants, it matters what colour police officers are. Fergusons population has shifted from 75% white in 1990 to 67% black in 2010, but the police force is still 95% white. This is partly due to bureaucratic inertia. Public servants have rock-solid job security and generous pensions, so the workforce turns over slowly. A fast-food joint in a town that becomes Hispanic will quickly hire Spanish-speaking cashiers. The police are much slower to hire officers with a feel for a changing community. This is not to say that Ferguson should have sacked the white officers and replaced them with blacks; that would be illegal. But it ought to be easier to shift officers between towns, bring in fresh faces and retrain the old hands to be more racially sensitive. Third, policing would be a lot easier, and race relations a little more cordial, if America legalised drugs. One reason why so many African-Americans distrust the police is that so many young black men are sent to prison for non-violent drug offences. If drugs were legal, no one would be patted down for pills or jailed for possessing them. Illicit drug gangs would go out of business. And the police would be able to concentrate on tracking down thieves and rapists, making everyone safer. Legalising marijuana would be a good first step, following the examples of Colorado and Washington state. The ills of shrinking rust-belt towns with tetchy race relations cannot be fixed quickly. But the broken windows of Ferguson should remind Americas leaders that they have to try.

More anti-government protests, but little change from the prime minister反政府抗议越来越多,但总理大人做出的改变太少HUNGARIANS are taking to the streets. More than 10,000 gathered outside the parliament in Budapest on November 17th to protest against alleged corruption and the centralisation of power. Similar protests took place in other cities, including Miskolc in the east and Szeged and Pecs in the south. Several hundred Hungarians even gathered in Londons Trafalgar Square. The habit is catching: this week also saw big protests in neighbouring Slovakia and in the Czech Republic. Hungarys protesters were encouraged partly by Americas rising criticism of their government. Six Hungarian officials have been banned from entering the ed States on suspicion of corruption, a rare rebuff to a NATO ally. American officials refuse to name them, on privacy grounds. However Ildiko Vida, head of the tax authority, told Magyar Nemzet, a pro-government newspaper, that she was one. She strongly denies any wrongdoing. Hungarian officials have asked for more information from the Americans. They reject claims that the country is sliding into authoritarianism. The protests are proof that Hungary remains a democracy, where people are free to express their opinion as long as they abide by the law, says Antal Rogan, parliamentary leader of the ruling right-wing Fidesz party. This weeks protests followed a bigger one on October 28th, when as many as 100,000 people filled central Budapest to demand the cancellation of an internet tax that they saw as an attack on free speech. The crowds were mostly young, educated and middle class, the sort of people that Fidesz needs to attract. And they forced a rare U-turn by the government, when Viktor Orban, Hungarys prime minister, said the internet tax would be dropped in its current form. Instead he would launch a “national consultation” to consider ways in which to tax online profits. The latest protesters have a harder task because their demands, including the resignation of the government, are unrealistic. This year Fidesz has won national, local and European elections. As the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe noted, the victories were due in part to the governments tinkering with election rules in its favour. Yet the fractured liberal and left-wing opposition means that the alternative lacks appeal. Demographic change is also working against the opposition. The Hungarian embassy in London says that around 100,000 Hungarian citizens live in Britain, but the true figure could be higher. Many expatriate Magyars are young, multilingual, educated and entrepreneurial. A good number have left Hungary because they see no future under Fidesz rule. Mr Orban has long made clear his disdain for liberal norms, never more so than in his speech in Baile Tusnad, Romania, on July 26th when he said that Hungary would remain a democracy, but become an “illiberal state”. The European Union has proved unwilling or unable to rein him in. Instead, as the entry-ban row shows, the pressure is mostly coming from America. President Barack Obama recently bracketed Hungary with Egypt and Azerbaijan as countries in which civil society felt intimidated. Concerns are growing inside Fidesz about the wisdom of taking on the worlds superpower. Younger members of Fidesz are critical of the governments policies, says Akos Balogh, of Mandiner.hu, an influential conservative blog. Hungary is losing friends and allies, he adds. It will struggle on the European and world stage if it acts with the arrogance that Fidesz shows at home.

We will not head to the polls to choose our next President for another 15 months.Yet, candidate announcements have been raining down on us since March 23, when Ted Cruz became the first major candidate to jump into the race. With 17 Republicans showing up in major polls and five Democrats, its proving to be a crowded field. Is it all too much, too soon? And what of the tone of these campaigns?;Well, this far out I dont think its terribly unusual to have a lot of people show interest. I think because of the media cycles were into now people feel the need to declare and raise that money early,; says historian Gleaves Whitney, Director of the Hauenstein Center for Presidential Studies at Grand Valley State University. But Whitney does say he was amazed by record number of people watching last Thursdays debate.;I thought that that was a good sign that people are tuned in.;And he hopes voters will begin to be serious about Donald Trump.;Trump is somebody whose bubble is going to burst here before too long. He cannot sustain this faux campaign. It really isnt even a campaign. Go to his website ... there is not a position paper on the website,; Whitney says.;Neither party can have a serious discussion with Donald Trump because we dont know how he would really do the things that he talks about doing.;Whitney says Republicans seem to be tiring of Trumps antics. He hopes other contenders will begin to stand up to him ;and, frankly, force him to be serious or get out of the race; But Trump isnt the only one to compete for air time with attention-grabbing antics. Ted Cruz can be seen in a recently released cooking bacon on a gun, and Senator Lindsey Graham destroyed phones with a variety of tactics as a response to Trump giving away his phone number.Whitney says these stunts may be heightened to attract coverage by cable television, but theyre not unique to our contemporary politics. ;I have no doubt that there were a lot of shenanigans in the past, some of our past campaigns were outrageous, much more outrageous than today,; he says.According to Whitney, Debates between Lincoln and Douglas could last for hours, being viewed as a source of high entertainment. And Whitney says the campaign between Jefferson and Adams included its own mudslinging.;Lets not fool ourselves. Lets not act too sanctimonious. Americans love a clown show.;But Whitney suggests there may be some upside to Americans viewing politics for amusement.;The fact that we can take it so for granted and be so lighthearted about it and buffoonish about it indicates maybe, in some sense, a relative strength of our democracy.;201508/392510But thats the least of a mothers worry. Diving into the tangle of branches and grabbing about, hangingat its roost site is not an option for a large bird. For the eagle to have any chance, the bats need to be airborne. These are little red fruit bats. During the day, they gather in roost for about 12 million, so they are not hard to find. An eagles appearance creates panic. 201503/363055

Energy in Europe欧洲能源The gasman cutteth煤气工人面临裁员Europe could survive a cut-off of Russian gas, but only a short one短期内欧洲有能力应对俄罗斯天然气供应的中断,但也仅限于短期内NAPOLEON and Hitler both succumbed to the bitter Russian winter in their efforts at territorial expansion in Europe. Now, Vladimir Putin seems to be exporting a bit of Russian chill as part of his strategy to shift Europes borders in his favour. In recent days there have been ill-explained reductions in the flow of gas that Gazprom, a Russian state firm, supplies to Poland, Austria and Slovakia—possibly to warn them off re-exporting any of it to Ukraine. Russia provides one-third of the gas that other European countries rely on to heat their homes, generate electricity and feed industry. So far the assumption among western European governments and industrial gas users is that even if relations with Russia worsen further, there is little danger of a complete and long-term cut in supplies, since Russias government is so dependent on the revenues from gas exports. However, a short-term interruption in the coming months, as winter descends, is not so unthinkable. Fortunately, most European countries would be able to struggle through. Their gas-storage facilities are about 90% full, since last winter was mild and they did a bit of further topping-up over the summer. Last year Europe imported 155 billion cubic metres (bcm) of Russian gas; stocks currently stand at 75bcm. So European energy distributors would have a few months grace to find alternative supplies. Norway, a big producer, could pump a bit more. Chinas slowing economy and Japans reopening of some nuclear plants will mean more liquefied natural gas (LNG) is available on spot markets, though it is costly. Europe has the capacity to import more than 200bcm of LNG a year, of which just 20% is in use. Contingency plans being drawn up by the EU are also said to include cutting gas to industry to preserve supplies for heating homes and generating power. Half of Europes imports of gas come down pipes that traverse Ukraine, and Russia has cut their flow several times since 2006 over price disputes with the Ukrainians. If it did so again, it might pump more gas down pipelines that bypass Ukraine. Trouble is, these do not reach those countries most dependent on Russian gas, such as Hungary, Bulgaria, the Baltic states and Finland. The Finnish coalition government is at risk of falling because the Green party is threatening to quit over plans to buy a Russian nuclear reactor, which it says would increase, not reduce, dependence on Russia. EU countries are making some preparations for short-term cut-offs but almost nothing has been done to reduce long-term reliance on Russia. There is much that could be done: governments could encourage the building of more cross-border pipelines to connect customers to sources of supply, including the underused LNG import terminals; more storage capacity could be provided; and those countries with shale reserves could get fracking. So far all that has been produced is hot air, and not the useful kind. /201409/331500we should done the focus group first, cause now we got thousand of this things我们售点小组应该提前行动的 因为现在我们弄了成千上万这种东西So if you wanna get any none addable on The Valentines Day products go to our website如果你想在情人节得到一些 没那么多花样产品来我们网站吧and while you there inter our new.this is amazing你来了就会有新的 这个很棒Its a new contest called Watch And Win contest is start today everyday between now and March second这是一个新游戏叫Watch And Win 从现在开始到3月2号的每天you will see a clue on the show, inter the clue on the website你都会在节目中看到一条线索 把线索输入到网站and you and three friend would win amazing africa safari, how about that你和你3个朋友会得到精的非洲游 怎么样So now I need to talk about something that happened last week那么现在我就得唠唠上周发生的事Its a matter of national important here, the first lady Michelle Obama was on the show, and yes这是国际性重要问题 第一夫人米歇尔奥巴马来我们节目了 是滴we were sitting here she is there I am here and we have a lovely conversion and suddenly我们就坐在这儿 她在那我在这 我们聊的很开心 突然我们就We found ourselves in a middle of push-up competition我们怎么就开始比拼俯卧撑了How many push-ups can you do,cause I like to do push-ups你能做多少俯卧撑 因为我爱做点俯卧撑you know I dont know,I can do some, can you我不知道呀 我能做几个 你呢I can do some,I just wonder if you can do some push-ups than I can do我也能做点 我就是在想 你能做的有我多吗It depens on how your back is,I know you got these back issues这要看你的背怎么样 我知道你的背有点问题 /201607/453291
