And we managed to boil it down to nine. In fact weve done two more Blue Zone expeditions since this其实在这次蓝区远征前and these common denominators hold true.我们已经调查了两个蓝区And the first one,第一个and Im about to utter a heresy here,我想说个异端邪说,none of them exercise,他们谁都不运动at least the way we think of exercise. Instead, they set up their lives反而建立他们的生活so that they are constantly nudged into physical activity. These 100-year-old Okinawan women这些100岁的冲绳女人are getting up and down off the ground, they sit on the floor,在地上上来下去,30 or 40 times a day. Sardinians live in vertical houses, up and down the stairs. Every trip to the store, or to church每次去商店,教堂或朋友家里or to a friends house occasions a walk. They dont have any conveniences. There is not a button to push to do yard work or house work. If they want to mix up a cake, theyre doing it by hand. Thats physical activity. ?That burns calories just as much as going on the tmill does. When they do do intentional physical activity,进行惯常体力运动,its the things they enjoy. They tend to walk,是他们享受这些事情的时候。他们常常步行,the only proven way to stave off cognitive decline,这被明是防止认知降低的唯一方法,and they all tend to have a garden. They know how to set up their life in the right way他们知道如何安排生活so they have the right outlook. Each of these cultures take time to downshift. The Sardinians pray. The Seventh-Day Adventists pray. The Okinawans have this ancestor veneration. But when youre in a hurry or stressed out,但是你的匆忙或压力引发的that triggers something called the inflammatory response,炎症反应which is associated with everything from Alzheimers这些都与老年痴呆症和心血管疾病disease to cardiovascular disease. When you slow down for 15 minutes a day每天减缓行动15分钟you turn that inflammatory state这种炎症into a more anti-inflammatory state. They have vocabulary for sense of purpose,冲绳人把这个目的感叫做ikigai, like the Okinawans. You know the two most dangerous years in your life一个人一生中最危险的两年are the year youre born, because of infant mortality,一是出生的时候,因为婴儿死亡率高and the year you retire. These people know their sense of purpose,这些人知道他们的生活目的感and they activate in their life, thats worth about seven years他们生活活跃,能有7年of extra life expectancy. Theres no longevity diet. Instead, these people drink a little bit every day,这些人每天就喝一点酒,not a hard sell to the American population. They tend to eat a plant-based diet. Doesnt mean they dont eat meat, but lots of beans and nuts. And they have strategies to keep from overeating,他们有办法避免饮食过量,little things that nudge them away from the table at the right time. And then the foundation of all this is how they connect. They put their families first,把家庭放在第一位,take care of their children and their aging parents. They all tend to belong to a faith-based community,他们的社区建立在诚信基础上,which is worth between four and 14这个能增加4到14年extra years of life expectancy的生命。if you do it four times a month. And the biggest thing here这里最重要的事情是is they also belong to the right tribe. They were either born into他们或者生在正义之家or they proactively surrounded themselves with the right people. We know from the Framingham studies,从弗雷明翰研究中我们得知that if your three best friends are obese如果你有三个好朋友都肥胖there is a 50 percent better chance that youll be overweight. So, if you hang out with unhealthy people,所以如果你和不健康的人在一起thats going to have a measurable impact over time. Instead, if your friends idea of recreation如果你朋友的主意is physical activity, bowling, or playing hockey,是体力活动,打保龄球或打曲棍球biking or gardening,自行车或园艺工作,if your friends drink a little, but not too much,他们饮酒适量and they eat right, and theyre engaged, and theyre trusting and trustworthy,饮食适度,他们投入工作值得信任,that is going to have the biggest impact over time. Diets dont work. No diet in the history of the world食物没有什么用,历史上没有一种食物has ever worked for more than two percent of the population. Exercise programs usually start in January;练习项目通常在一月开始theyre usually done by October. When it comes to longevity至于长寿,there is no short term fix没有药片或其他什么东西in a pill or anything else. But when you think about it,但当你想到your friends are long-term adventures,你的朋友是长期的冒险活动时,and therefore, perhaps the most significant thing you can do因此,它是你为增加寿命和让生命生机勃勃能够做的最重要to add more years to your life,的事情and life to your years. Thank you very much.

  • Hi, everybody. This week, America came together to salute our veterans – to express our appreciation to all who served so that we might live free. But our gratitude should extend beyond what our veterans have done for us in the past. It should remind us of our responsibilities to serve them as well as they have served us. It should compel us to keep our veterans central to the ongoing work of this nation. In recent years, weve made historic investments to boost the VA budget, expand veterans benefits, and improve care for our wounded warriors. Weve now slashed the disability claims backlog by nearly 90 percent from its peak. Were reducing the outrage of veterans homelessness and weve helped tens of thousands of veterans get off the streets. The veterans unemployment rate is down to 3.9 percent – even lower than the national average. Of course, were not satisfied. Weve still got more work to do – and Ive directed my Administration to keep doing everything it can to fulfill our promise to our veterans. But this isnt just a job for government alone. We all have a role to play. Less than one percent of Americans are serving in uniform. So its true most Americans dont always see and appreciate the incredible skills and assets that our veterans can offer. But every American should know that our veterans are some of the most talented, capable people in the world. Theyve mastered skills and technologies and leadership roles that are impossible to teach off the battlefield. They know how to get stuff done. And as our veterans will tell you themselves, theyre not finished serving their country. Theyre teachers and doctors, engineers and entrepreneurs, social workers and community leaders. They serve in statehouses across the country and in Congress. As I tell small business owners and CEOs on a regular basis, if you want to get the job done, hire a vet. Every sector, every industry, every community in this country can benefit from the incredible talents of our veterans. Our troops and veterans give us their very best. Thats what a soldier named Captain Florent Groberg proved. Three years ago, on patrol in Afghanistan, Flo saw a suicide bomber coming toward his unit. Without hesitating, Flo grabbed him by his vest and helped push him to the ground. When the bomb went off, Flo was badly injured, and four of his comrades were killed. But many more were saved because of Flos sacrifice. Flo represents the very best of America – and this week, I was proud to present him with the Medal of Honor for his actions. Veterans like Flo, they deserve our undying gratitude. They deserve the chance to keep serving the country they risked everything to defend. And so we must come together to keep giving them that chance, not just on Veterans Day, but on every single day of the year. May God bless all those who serve and all who have given their lives for our country. And may God bless the ed States of America.201511/410158。
  • My Dad became a professor at uh... Michigan State,我的父亲后来成了···密歇根州立大学的教授,and I was an incredibly lucky boy. A professor’s life is pretty flexible,教授的生活安排是非常有弹性的,and he was able to spend oodles of time raising me. Could there be a better upbringing than university brat? What I’m tryingto tell you, this is WAY more than a homecoming for me. It’s not easy for me to express how proud I am to be here, with my Mom, my brother and my wife Lucy,我是多么的自豪能与我的妈妈、哥哥、露西and with all of you, at this amazing institution that is responsible for my very existence. I am thrilled for all of you,我为你们感到骄傲,and I’m thrilled for your families and friends,为你的亲朋好友感到骄傲,as all of us join the great, big Michigan family I feel I’ve been a part of all of my life. What I’m also trying to tell you is that I know exactly what it feels like to be sitting in your seat,我还想说,我很清楚你们坐在座椅上listening to some old gasbag give a long-winded commencement speech. Don’t worry. Ill be brief. I have a story about dreams. Or maybe more accurately, it’s a story about finding a path to make those dreams real. You know what it’s like to wake up in the middle of the night with a vivid dream? And you know how, if you don’t have a pencil and pad by the bed, it will be completely gone by the next morning?
  • And in my own life--in my own life, in my own small way, I have tried to give back to this country that has given me so much. See, thats why I left a job at a big law firm for a career in public service, working to empower young people to volunteer in their communities, because I believe that each of us--no matter what our age or background or our walk in life--each of us has something to contribute to the life of this nation. And its a belief Barack shares, a belief at the heart of his lifes work. See, its what he did all those years ago in Chicago, setting up job training to get people back to work and after-school programs to keep kids safe; working block by block to help people lift up their families. Its what he did in the Illinois Senate, moving people from welfare to jobs, passing tax cuts for hardworking families, and making sure women get equal pay for equal work. Its what hes done in the ed States Senate, fighting to ensure that the men and women who serve this country are welcomed home not just with medals and parades, but with good jobs and benefits and health care, including mental health care. /201308/254718。
