Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation of the ROK: We have paid close attention to the part in China#39;s 12th Five-Year Plan about promoting cultural development and prosperity. China is one of the birthplaces of human civilization, and has a time-honored history and cultural tradition. My question is what will China do to give full play to its cultural advantage and boost the country#39;s soft power. What will be the specific policies taken in this field? Premier Wen Jiabao: I believe the strength of a country lies in not only its economy but also the educational level of its people, cultural development, and moral and ethical standards. China has a 5,000-year cultural heritage. The Chinese civilization has continued uninterrupted despite the many trials and tribulations. Culture is the soul of a nation. And cultural tradition is a strong source of inspiration and cohesiveness. We must bring into full play the strength of China#39;s cultural heritage and at the same time learn from and draw upon the fine achievements of other civilizations. Only in this way will the Chinese culture enjoy greater development. As I have often said, only an open and inclusive country can be strong. We will further reform and develop our cultural programs on a priority basis during the 12th Five-Year Plan period and for an even longer time to come. We will pursue institutional reform, develop well-trained professionals and further promote the people-oriented cultural programs to boost cultural development and prosperity. We will integrate our cultural heritage with the spirit of the times and combine our efforts to carry forward the Chinese cultural heritage with efforts to draw upon the culture of other countries so that the Chinese culture will continue to brim with vigor and vitality. /201204/177400Who will pay the bill? Women start stressing about this as soon as you both sit down at the table. Will you be offended if she doesn't offer to pay or will you be offended if she does do the slow-motion "let me get my wallet" move? Put her fears to rest by telling her to order anything she wants because this meal is on you. What happens next? Everything is going super great on the date. However, she's debating if you expect to come home with her or if you think she's a giant slut for even thinking that. Make your intentions clear from the outset by subtly sliding a handful of condoms across the table and mouthing "later." Do I actually like him? You're funny, charming, and good-looking in the candle light. She's trying to decide if she wants to date you. Solve this problem by making her fall in love with you immediately. Instant love can generally be created by making sure she has endless drink refills. Am I making sense? As she rambles on about co-worker drama and its relationship to problems with her mother, she's simultaneously asking herself what the fuck she is talking about. She wants to make a good impression — and in an attempt to do so continually finds herself telling stories with no end. Save her the embarrassment by constantly interrupting with your own semi-related stories. What is he looking for? Whether you went on this date looking for a girlfriend or looking for a one-night stand, you know exactly what you want. Now she's attempting to interpret what you want by over analyzing everything you say. Stop making her between the lines by spelling it out for her — "my friends dared my 0 to ask you on a date, after this I will never see you again." What will my friends think? Women get off on judging each other, especially their very own friends. Even if she is falling madly in love with you, she's still thinking about what her friends will say. Assure her that her friends will love you by being extra-good-looking, extra-funny, extra-nice, and extra-rich. Do I still look okay? She left her house with perfectly straight hair and smudge-free make-up. However you're now halfway done with your ribs dinner and she's stressing about what's in her teeth and how to get that lump of sauce out of her hair without you noticing. Make her feel more comfortable by smearing sauce all over yourself to the point that you're asked to leave the restaurant for indecent behavior. /201110/158462

We’ve all faced the disappointment and guilt that comes from setting a goal and giving up on it after a couple of weeks. Sustaining motivation for a long-term goal is hard to achieve, and yet the best goals can usually only be accomplished in a few months or even years. How do you change your habits? Focus on one habit at a time, and follow these steps:Positive changes. If you’re trying to change a negative habit (quit smoking), replace it with a positive habit (running for stress relief, for example). /200912/90915

Hi, I#39;m Charlotte Lawson, a registered, licensed dietitian here in Tampa Bay, Florida. In these days, everybody is trying to save a little money. And when we are on a budget, how do we continue to eat healthy? Well, it can be as simple as just planning a list ahead of time and checking out your grocery ads. Know what you are going into, into the store, is an excellent way to avoid excess purchases. So, when you have that plan, try to stick to it. And don#39;t be afraid to purchase frozen or canned fruits and vegetables. As long as there isn#39;t any additives, such as salts or sugar, these are very excellent ways to have these nutritious foods on hand, that won#39;t spoil often. Sometimes, when we buy fresh produce, we#39;ll let it sit on our counter, and actually the nutrition value starts to diminish. So, these frozen and canned products that are often, sometimes, be cheaper, are still an excellent way to have a nutritious part of a meal. Also, don#39;t be afraid to buy meat alternatives. Meat can be a very expensive part of our meal, but looking at low-fat dairy or beans, or other legumes that have excellent sources of protein, may be a cheaper option for your meal. So plan, look for alternatives, and don#39;t be afraid to go outside the box when buying fresh or frozen. So, just make sure you are checking your nutrition labels to help guide you in those healthy choices. I#39;m Charlotte, and happy eating. /201201/168808

Premature birth may increase the risk for serious mental illness in adolescence and young adulthood, a recent study reports. Researchers reviewed birth and hospital admissions records of more than 1.3 million Swedes born from 1973 to 1985. They found that compared with those born at term, young adults born very premature - at less than 32 weeks#39; gestation - were more than twice as likely to be hospitalized for schizophrenia or delusional disorders, almost three times as likely for major depression, and more than seven times as likely for bipolar illness. The lead author, Chiara Nosarti, a senior lecturer in neuroimaging at Kings College London, emphasized that while the increase in relative risk is substantial, the absolute increase in numbers of people with the illnesses is not. ;Despite these findings,; she said, ;the majority of people born preterm have no psychiatric problems, and the number of people hospitalized with psychiatric disease is very low.;;尽管有着这样的调查结果,;她说,;但其实大部分早产的人并没有精神疾病,因精神疾病入院就医的人也很少。;Still, she added, ;routine screening may help to detect early signs of illness.;但是,她又说道:;例行的检查能够帮助发现疾病的早期症状。;The risk also increased for people born late preterm, or 32 to 36 weeks#39; gestation, but not as sharply. They were 60 percent more likely to be admitted for schizophrenia or delusional disorders, 34 percent more likely for depressive disorder, and about twice as likely to be hospitalized for bipolar illness. The researchers acknowledge that the findings could be affected by factors they could not control for, including unmeasured sociodemographic factors, a family history of preterm delivery, maternal substance abuse or smoking, and bacterial or viral infections. But experts not involved in the study were impressed with the work. ;This is an important, expertly executed epidemiological study,; said Catherine Monk, an associate professor of clinical psychology at Columbia who conducts research in perinatal psychiatry and neuroscience. ;It provides compelling evidence that our mental health trajectories are initiated early in development.;但那些并没参与这项研究的专家们则是对这份研究印象深刻。 ;Dr. Monk, too, noted that the study did not mean that being born prematurely inevitably leads to mental illness. ;The risk found is still low in an absolute sense, and finally it, too, can be modified by other factors in the child#39;s development,; she said.;从绝对意义上来讲,患病几率仍然是很小,并且,患病几率也能被个体儿童时期发展中的其他因素所改变。;Dr. Bradley Peterson, director of the Center for Developmental Neuropsychiatry at the New York State Psychiatric Institute, said the size of the sample was ;stunning; and ;allows very strong levels of confidence that the findings are not spurious.;纽约州精神病学研究所发展神经精神病学中心主任布兰得利? ; /201207/190005。

No advance for women in top U.S. jobsWomen in 2008 made no significant gains in winning more top US business jobs, according to a study released on Wednesday, but the head of the study said women are poised to make strides in the year ahead. The number of women who were board directors, corporate officers or top earners at Fortune 500 companies remained essentially unchanged, said the study by Catalyst, a nonprofit group that promotes opportunities for women in business. The percentage of companies with women on the board of directors was 15.1 percent this year, compared with 14.8 percent in 2007, Catalyst said. Also, the percentage of corporate officer positions held by women was 15.7 percent in 2008 and 15.4 percent in 2007, it said. The percentage of top earners in 2008 who were women was 6.2 percent, compared to 6.7 percent in 2007, it said. The research on the Fortune 500 companies was based on data as of March 31, 2008. The slight changes in the numbers are not considered statistically significant, Catalyst said.Nevertheless, given the changes in U.S. politics, the future for women in business looks more promising, said Ilene Lang, president and chief executive officer of Catalyst."Overall we're expecting to see change next year," Lang said. "When we look at shareholders, decision makers, the general public, they're looking for change."What they're basically saying is, 'Don't give us more of the status quo. Get new ideas in there, get some fresh faces,'" she said.Lang said President-elect Barack Obama's choices for cabinet and other leadership positions, which include women and minorities, former rivals and opponents, bode well for women in the corporate world."These are very, very inclusive teams," she said. "I think that can be a role model for leadership in other sectors."The Catalyst study also noted that minority women -- black, Asian or Latina -- comprised 3.2 percent of company directorships, compared with 3.0 percent in 2007. /200812/58676

Marriages improve after children fly the coop, according to researchMarriages improve after children grow up and move out, according to an academic study which suggests an "empty nest" is not always a bad thing.Popular wisdom has it that parents' relationships may suffer once their young fly the coop, because they feel they have lost their purpose in life. However a new study by researchers at the University of California, Berkeley, has found that many couples actually feel happier when their children leave home because they are able to enjoy spending time together. In total, 123 American mothers born in the 1930s were tracked for 18 years and asked to rate their satisfaction levels shortly after marrying, when they were bringing up babies, once their children reached their teenage years and finally at age 61, when almost all had "empty nests".Although not all said they were happier in general, most claimed their marriages had improved since their children had left home.Researchers believe this is not just because the spouses were spending more time together, but because they were able to enjoy each other's company more. One of the participants in the study, which is published in the journal Psychological Science, said: "Once the kids grow up... there's some of that stress removed... that responsibility removed, so things are a little more relaxed."Psychologist Sara Gorchoff, who carried out the investigation, said: "The take-home message for couples with young children is 'hang in there'."Her co-author Oliver John added: "Don't wait until your kids leave home to schedule quality time with your partner."However Dr Dorothy Rowe, from the British Psychological Society, said the effects of living in an "empty nest" will depend on the parents' relationship with their children."If you're just waiting for them to leave home so you can get on with your life, then of course you'll be pleased to see them go,' she said."But if you've built your life around your children you'll be terribly bereft. For some parents, their world falls apart when their children leave." Ancient Greeks believed the number was sacred. Pythagoras calls three the perfect number, since everything has three parts — beginning, middle and end. Therefore it is a good symbol of anything related to gods. In Greek and Roman mythology, the world was supposed to be under the rule of three gods, that is, Jupiter(Zeus), the ruler of Heaven; Neptune(Poseidon), the ruler of the sea; Pluto(Hades), the king of the Underworld. Jupiter’s weapon was three-forked lightning, Neptune’s, a trident, and Pluto’s, a three-headed dog. The Fates were three, the Furies three, the Graces three. Superstitious people believe that man is made up of three parts, that is, body, soul, and spirit. Most Christians believe in the doctrine of the Trinity, that is, God is in three persons: the Father, the Son(Jesus Christ), and the Holy Ghost, or Holy Spirit. Some Christians also believe that the enemies of man are three: the world, the flesh, and the devil. In the Bible, the baby Jesus was visited by the three Magi; before the cock crowed, Peter denied Jesus for three times. When things are difficult, people think they will be successful the third time. /200907/76852

Generally, it has been assumed that the need for sleep does not decrease with age, but rather that other factors gradually come to interfere with our ability to sleep through the night.Older individuals, for instance, are at greater risk not only for developing medical and psychiatric disorders but also for taking medications that can disrupt sleep. In spite of these influences, however, it may be that an actual biological deterioration of the sleep drive might also be playing a role.A new study published in the journal Current Biology has been able to shed some light on this puzzle of sleep and aging. The researchers, who wanted to determine the maximal sleep capacity of both young and older persons, arranged for groups of younger adults (ages 18 to 32 years) and older adults (ages 60 to 76 years) to lie in bed for 12 hours during the night and for another 4 hours in the afternoon. The subjects tended to sleep significantly longer at the beginning of the experiment, presumably because they were making up for a sleep debt accrued during their usual daily sleep routines. When the sleep patterns stabilized, however, the younger adults were capable of sleeping for much longer times — an average of 8.9 hours daily — than were the elderly people, who got only 7.4 hours daily. This 1.5-hour difference in maximal sleep capacity is impressive. If your biological drive for sleep seems to have decreased, make sure that you are following the kinds of routines and behaviors that will give you the best chance of getting as much refreshing sleep as possible. Here are some examples of good sleep hygiene:* Make sure that you're going to bed early enough to allow yourself to get an adequate night's sleep.* As your bedtime approaches, develop a relaxing routine in the evening — don't keep busy until the moment before you expect to fall asleep.* Avoid watching TV in bed.* Sleep in a cool, relatively dark room.* Consider going to sleep to the sound of white noise, either from a bedside fan or a machine that generates calming sounds.* Increase your exercising, but don't do it so near to bedtime that it gets your adrenaline flowing and keeps you awake.* Limit your daily intake of caffeinated beverages and avoid them completely after lunchtime.* Avoid alcoholic beverages. /200811/54706
