Issue No. 1The economy is front and center on voters' minds as markets slide, banks skirt collapse and the dollar is in freefall. The mortgage meltdown, the credit crunch. Up and down investments, uncertainty in the job market, today issue No.1 is the economy. The nation's housing crisis has 1 in 10 homeowners underwater. That's 8.8 million families owing more than their home is worth, according to Moody’s economy.com. And many of those could lose their homes. 900 thousand households are currently in foreclosure according to the Mortgage Bankers Association and Industry Trade Group. American debt doesn't help the problem. The average American household with a credit card owed nearly 10 thousand dollars in 2007 according to cardweb.com which serves the credit card industry. Adam Levin of consumer information website credit.com. "It's a disastrous threat. Uh, It's a threat based on the fact that the more debt that you get yourself involved in, the less income you are gonna have available to pay for other things.”If all that debt isn't enough to pinch your pocket book, the loss of value in your investment certainly could. The stock market continues its wild ride, tanking one day, soaring the next. Despite some positive signs this week, the market's still down dramatically for the year. And it's harder to save money when you are spending more for everything you buy. Gas prices for one are at record high. All this leads to fears of recession. And with recession comes the possibility of job losses."Job loss is about as serious a threat to your financial security as there is. It's not terrible right now. The problem is the trend is going in the wrong direction, jobless claims are creeping higher." The bureau of labor statistics says 6,300 people lost their jobs in February and economists say that number will likely rise. Mix all of these factors together, it signals a threat to your bottom line, your issue No.1.Gerri Willis, CNN, New York.Notes:Meltdown: an event resulting in great loss and misfortune01/60299。

Pity the republic of football. It has a government much like many another May 26th 2011 | from The Economist print edition IN ZURICH on June 1st a presidential election is due to take place. It is a rare event, the first since 2002, with a mere 208 voters. No incumbent has lost since 1974, and the man in possession is expected to win again. The winner, despite his grand title, will not be a head of state. Yet he will be better known than many who are—and his writ, unlike any of theirs, runs the world over. The presidency in question is that of FIFA, the global governing body of association football; the electors are its members, national associations. Sepp Blatter, a Swiss, has had the job for 13 years and thinks he deserves four more.6月1日在苏黎世(Zurich)一场主席选举将如期举行。 On May 25th his only challenger, Mohamed Bin Hammam, a Qatari who was once an ally, faced an unexpected obstacle: allegations of bribery involving him and Jack Warner, a Trinidadian who heads a regional confederation with 35 FIFA members. The claims were made by Chuck Blazer, the American general secretary of Mr Warner’s group, who sits with both men on FIFA’s 24-member executive committee (in effect, its cabinet). FIFA’s ethics committee is due to examine the claims on May 29th. 201106/138929。

From its northern border with Peru, Chile stretches some 2,700 miles to the bottom of South America, longer than the distance from New York City to Los Angeles. Strung out along its entire length are the Andes Mountains. Here among these rocky peaks, life goes civilized and wild has learnt to thrive. In Torres Del Paine National Park, pumas have found a refuge. A young female stakes out her territory. She'll range over 60 square miles in search of food. The puma's main prey is the guanaco, the camel of the Andes. Catching one is not easy. The herd keeps alert while grazing, y to flee at a moment’s notice. Even after a successful hunt, repeat meals aren't guaranteed. While the puma sleeps, grey foxes discover her catch, and snatch a bite. It attracts the attention of condors gliding overhead. Outweighed and out-numbered, the foxes scamper away, leaving the carcass to be stripped clean by the condors. When times are lean, pumas will take their chances with other prey. Most of Chile's agriculture is centered around the coastal low lands, but these wild open spaces make excellent ranching. The puma has yet to learn that hunting sheep can make herself the hunted. Though protected by law within the park, they are fair game outside. Ranchers place large bounties on pumas, and will shoot on sight. She manages to escape, reappearing in a few days later. This female has learned an important lesson about surviving in the Andes. In time, she will develop her hunting skills, she will use them to feed her cubs, and continue the puma’s role in a rugged, majestic environment of the Chilean Andes. But although it happens passively, arm swinging plays an important role in making your stride more efficient. It does this by counterbalancing your torso and hips and keeping them from twisting and bobbing too much. Holding your arms still against your sides while walking requires twelve percent more energy than if your arms are allowed to swing naturally. Forcing your arms to swing in sync with the leg on the same side of your body uses a whopping twenty-six percent more energy than normal walking. Even when walkers had their arms strapped to their sides, so no muscle control was required to keep them still, they used seven percent more energy than when their arms could swing freely. This suggests that arm swinging is not just a passive byproduct of walking, but actually makes walking easier. plays an important role in 在;;起重要作用counterbalance v.

After all, in 2005 he had won two alpine world championship gold medals in another Italian city, Bormio. Those came in the downhill and Super G (super giant slalom).
