Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni spoke on U.S. television. Iran's president continues to insist he will not surrender his country's "nuclear rights". Mahmoud Ahmadinejad spoke as an informal deadline expired for Iran to halt its program to enrich uranium in return for international economic incentives and the suspension of further ed Nations sanctions. Speaking on CNN's Late Edition program, Israeli Foreign Minister Livni said the world must take note of Iran's responses to diplomatic initiatives. It is clear that Iran does not pay attention to talks," said Tzipi Livni. "And this is a clear message to the international community to continue with real and effective sanctions. And clearly Iran is a threat, not only to Israel. This is a global threat, and the international community should act accordingly." Livni was asked if the time is drawing near for her country or other nations to consider direct intervention to prevent Iran from building a nuclear weapon. The Israeli foreign minister did not comment on possible military options, stressing instead the importance of continued international sanctions to pressure Tehran. I think that time is of the essence. Intensive sanctions can be effective. Iran is a threat to its neighbors, as well," she said. "And the international community is being watched, not only by Iran, but also by its neighbors. And when the international community shows hesitation, this is being perceived as weakness. And we live in a neighborhood where either you beat the bully or join it." Iran continues to insist its nuclear program is purely for peaceful purposes - to generate energy for a growing population. In a recent interview, President Ahmadinejad suggested that nuclear weapons are a relic of the 20th century that his country has no interest in acquiring. Rice: Israeli Settlements Have 'Negative Effect' on Peace Talks赖斯努力促以巴和平进程重回正轨 America's top diplomat is in the Middle East trying to get the peace process back on track. Israeli settlement expansion topped the agenda as Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice met separately with Israeli and Palestinian leaders. Rice used exceptionally harsh language to condemn Israel's announcement on Friday that it plans to build 1,300 new homes in disputed East Jerusalem, on land the Palestinians claim for their future capital. I do believe and the ed States believes that the actions and the announcements that are taking place are indeed having a negative effect on the atmosphere for negotiation," said Condoleezza Rice. "And that is not what we want. We should be in a position of encouraging confidence, not undermining it." Rice spoke at a news conference with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in the West Bank town of Ramallah. We believe that settlement is the highest hurdle on the road of our political endeavors," said Mahmoud Abbas. "With the continued expansion and building of settlements the more tough the hurdle would become." Israel says it has the right to build anywhere in Jerusalem because it will remain the capital of the Jewish state in any final peace agreement. Despite the obstacles, Rice said both sides remain committed to the peace process. We are all devoted to and believe that it is possible to establish the agreement between the Palestinians and the Israelis for the establishment of a Palestinian state by the end of the year," said Mahmoud Abbas. But that goal is in doubt because in addition to the settlements, gaps are wide on core issues like Palestinian refugees and the status of Jerusalem. Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert is also embroiled in a corruption scandal that could force him to step down. In the meantime, Mr. Olmert is widely seen as too weak to close a peace deal involving major territorial concessions to the Palestinians. 200806/42177Welcome back. It was a futuristic vision of efficiency or in our value in nightmare depending on your point of view. The government had been planning two huge computer databases, one to store all of our personal identity information, / the other our health records. Well, yesterday a bank diagnostic compulsory inclusion in the medical records computer, and today we learn the ID card system is not quite going to be as it was first in physics. Let's keep being reports. It may look like just a photo opportunity for journalists, but this was the home office far in what it called the starting gun for the national identity scheme. But as the noise of that dies down, you notice there is a U-turn, too. The governments decided not to go ahead with one central database for the ID card scheme, the so-called clean system as it promised all along. Instead the information will be stored on 3 existing computer systems to save money. The home office will store your biometric data: fingerprints, iris scans and facial recognition information. The Department for work and pensions will store your biographic footprints, the basic facts about you: name, address and date of birth. And the identity and passport service will store details of card used the issue and use of the ID card itself. What the government is proposing is something far less secure, and actually very hard to see how they are going to manage or control. Then the clean, new database, the National Identity Register that they have been promising to Parliament from the very beginnings of introducing, are the identity card’s bill. What they are proposing is essentially to just designate pieces of data that are held in existing government databases that are mixed in with other bits of government data and saying: that's the register. The home secretary wasn't giving interviews today, but did issue a statement: doing something sensible is not necessarily a U-turn. We have decided it is lower risk, more efficient and faster to take the infrastructure that aly exists, although the data will be drawn from other sources.Conservatives have said the move shows costs are out of control, and criticized the home secretary for they say: sneaking out the news in a written statement.Well, I am joined now by Dr. Adycal Whilly from the London School of Economics. He has a precise project into the ID card scheme. So explain to me first what difference does it actually make to you or me, whether or not the government uses a whole new computer database for this built on top for the existing one?I think one of the most important differences is that the original plans for the brand-new database was going to have the security built-in from the very beginning because having all of your personal details, your biometric, etc, are very important thing that needs to be kept secure. The current plans seem/ to involve using existing database which is a little cheaper to do, but there is no guarantee that the security will be built-in from the very beginning and adding on security to an existing database is often a recipe for more problems that they tried, then they would actually solve. But even if you built that completely from scratch, is there really any such a thing as a safe and secure database? No, and that's one of the problems with the whole bases of the design that the government has in, whether it has 3 databases or one database, still putting all of the data in, in one particular location. It was interesting with the proposals for the children's database that the details of the prime minister's children, celebrity's children would not be stored there because, well, there might be a security risk. And yet all of our data is intended to be put onto these now, 3 databases are other than one database. The other thing that people get concerned about is whether or not the information is going to be held by them is incorrect, because we know there are mistakes aly existed in government records. Does do whether proposing today means it's more likely that the mistakes should be transferred into our ID cards?Well, that's the big, that's really not clear. They talk about using existing government databases, for example, from the Department of Work and Pensions, but Department of Work and Pensions, for example, has more national insurance numbers than there are people in the country, so using existing data was not necessarily a great way forward because the data is not clean, there're, errors was not put in as carefully, and that was why the previous plan said it will build it from scratch with a completely clean database. When do you think any of us might actually have an ID card, not wallet?Well, politically at least 2 people will have a card by , cause they talk about cards and . Beyond that, slowly possibly from 2010 if everything goes well, but once again the government is rushing for political timetables rather than thinking through what really needs to be done to build efficient identity measurement for the country.Ok, really thanks.200805/39571佛山早泄治疗哪家医院好

But economists say a credit crunch will affect all regions of the country. Even an economy buoyed by a booming energy sector is not immune. When housing prices soared in other areas of the country, cities like Houston, Texas saw only modest increases. So when prices went into steep declines elsewhere, people here did not worry. But tightening credit overall is having an impact. Some builders have shut down because they cannot get the financing they need to proceed with developments. The situation worries small business owners like Linda Heckman, who runs a gift shop in a Houston suburb. I use my credit card to buy merchandise for the store," she said. "If I cannot do that, then I cannot buy merchandise for the store." She says an economic slowdown would also affect her customers and reduce her sales. She says she hopes Congress will act soon to restore confidence in the system. One person keeping a careful watch on the situation is Barton Smith, a University of Houston economist who provides economic forecasts for the city. Home prices in Houston are essentially flat," he said. "That is a lot better than being down 15 to 20 percent, like many urban areas in the ed States. So we are doing better, but we are not totally immune. We are aly seeing increasing reports of businesses in Houston that are having a hard time maintaining their lines of credit just to continue to do business."Smith says the soaring price of oil in recent years, which helped slow the nation's economy overall, has so far had a positive effect in Houston where many oil and gas companies, as well as energy services companies, are located. Energy is what is keeping our head above water and allowing us to continue to grow while a lot of the rest of the nation is suffering job losses," he said. "But if the problem gets worse and sps more rapidly through the global economy, then it is going to continue to put significant downward pressure on oil." The price of a barrel of oil has dropped about in the past few months, although it is still more than double what it was just a few years ago. But a prolonged economic slowdown could reduce demand for energy and the price of oil. Rice University economist Barbara Ostdiek says that could hurt Houston. If a slowdown in the global economy pulls down the price of oil then, certainly, you would expect that to have an effect on the Houston economy," she said. "Now, that does not mean it is devastating." Ostdiek says the energy industry is likely to remain strong here even, if there is a drop in oil prices. But, she says, a global recession that drove down demand in fast-growing nations like India and China could put even greater downward pressure on prices for most commodities - including oil. As China and India sort of shudder in the wake of our current financial crisis, there is concern about their export-driven economies, particularly in China, and the extent that they are driven by the ability to sell products into our market," she said. "So the commodity prices are reflecting not only that slowdown in our demand, but also the slowdown in what have been very rapidly growing economies." In a sense, Barbara Ostdiek says, the problem of easy money and easy credit is coming full circle, since it was foreign countries, like China, that bought many of the financial instruments produced in the ed States and thereby kept the freewheeling system going. For a while, we were able to consume beyond our means and it was essentially funded by the rest of the world," said Ostdiek. "What we are seeing now may be a not too pleasant, but a necessary, adjustment of these huge global imbalances."For that reason, Ostdiek is among the many economists in the country who favor government action that is carefully crafted to shore up confidence in banks and the credit system. Although she says Congress needs to act soon, she maintains there is enough time to develop a plan that will work without putting taxpayer money at great risk. Barton Smith agrees:"It is important that we find a solution, but it is also important that we find the right solution," he said. "And I am not sure that the Paulson plan, even with all the various Band-Aids [bandages] that have been put on it, is the correct solution."200810/51518佛山市南海区第七人民医院泌尿外科

Harry: Let's see what the White House has in store for the holiday this year. CBS News senior White House correspondent Bill Plante is inside with a very special tour guide, First Lady Laura Bush, good morning. Bill: Harry, good morning to you, good morning to all, and First Lady Laura Bush, welcome as always. Laura: Thank you for having me. Bill: Christmas decorations at the White House? Laura: That's right. It's the most favorite time of the year and we've just, last night, all the decorators who've come from around the country to decorate left and I will set up today to show it off. Bill: I have to, I have to tell ya, I'm used to seeing something much more elaborate in this East Room. Laura: That's right. This is a simpler...ur...year, really is, we, ur, you have the theme: all things bright and beautiful and what I really wanted to use were fresh, all fresh things, so we have real roses on the tree, aren't they beautiful? Bill: Real flowers on the tree in. . . Laura: Some pieces're, that are (with those) up high, with those so we don't have to change those as so often. Bill: In water, in little vials of water. Laura: In water, that's right, in little vials of water. And then we are using a lot of fruit, we have the beautiful color of pears on the center pieces for the East Room, this is the, a table that will be set up during receptions here in the East Room, there will be one here and then one in the dinning room, of course. Bill: Wait a minute, where's the food? Laura: The food will be here. You are gonna get it this afternoon oh~ this morning. Um, in fact that will be our new chef that would, this would be her debut to the press. Cris Comerford, our new White House chef, the first woman chef. Bill: First woman chef, right. Laura: Chef and she will, about 10:30, will be serving all of the press, ur /, the big buffet that we will be having at our parties. Bill: Well, now you got the White House Christmas card of course right here. Laura: The White House Christmas card is in the mail, and it's done by Jamie Wyeth this year, the, um, very renowned American artist Jamie Wyeth, the son of Andrew Wyeth, grandson of NC Wyeth. And it's the beautiful south portico of the White House. And we have Barney and Beazley and Kitty down there in the snow. Of course, we had to put them in the card. And then, if you come to visit the White House during the Christmas, you get the~um~Christmas brochure, all the guests that come, / including all the tours, so we should, we expect about 45, 000 people and, on White House tours over the Christmas holidays and every year we've asked a children's book illustrator to illustrate the decorations of the White House. And this year the illustrator is Donna Green. And I think she did a really beautiful job of showing how pretty the White House is when it's decorated for Christmas. Bill: It's always pretty, but it's very different this year. What're these different things to see? Laura: It's very different. It's much simpler and everything is fresh and real, I think it's really, really pretty and, especially, I think this sort of decoration shows off how elegant the White House is. Bill: Let me ask you this. Your husband today is giving a major speech (That's right. ) about Iraq (Uh uhm), to prove that he has a plan(uhm) because he has been so criticized(uhm) by many people, (uh-em) because the war keeps dragging on,(uhm) because that means that there are troops (Sure. Can harm somewhat. ) away from Christmas.(yeah) Does it, first of all, does it bother you when he is criticized the way he has been? Laura: Well, sure, absolutely, you know, no one likes to see anyone they love criticized, but on the other hand when you look at what really has happened. It's only been three years. Iraq has come a very, very long way. They've ratified a constitution. This month, they will elect their leaders for the next four years. More and more Iraqi troops have been trained. As more Iraqi troops are trained, more of our troops will be able to stand down. It's really a quite amazing transformation in the heart of the Middle East, and all of the other things that happened as well, Lebanon, with Syria leaving Lebanon. Bill: This is quite a year. Laura: Libya. You know, what really is amazing and I know we're impatient and I know it's difficult, it's very, very difficult to watch those images from Iraq, to see and to be so fearful for our American troops that are there all the time, which I know all Americans are - not just the families that have been deployed, but all Americans have a very difficult time watching our troops over there and worrying about our troops over there. But at the same time. . . Bill: Especially I think at the holiday season. Laura: Sure. At the holiday season it's always the hardest when you think about the families who have an empty place at the table, either because they lost their loved one in Iraq or Afghanistan, or because their loved one is deployed. Um, it's the most difficult time, a holiday season. And so it's especially a time for Americans to reach out to our military families around the world. Bill: One quick question on another topic. Are you disappointed your husband didn't pick a woman for the Supreme Court? Laura: Well, he did pick one (Well, yeah), but now I mean I think Samuel Alito will be terrific, I'm very very excited about him and his highly qualified so. . . Bill: We are so happy you could be with us (Thank you very much Bill. ), thank you so much First Lady Laura Bush. Harry. Harry: Hi, Bill, Mrs. Bush, thank you so much show. Love the tour, love the scenes at the White House this time of year. You can check out even more decorations by heading to the website at the White House, that's whitehouse.gov.
